Chief Cliff stone is named after an Indian legend

Chief Cliff stone is named after a large rock outcropping overlooking Flathead Lake a few miles from the quarry. Legend holds that this rock holds the spirit of an ancient Indian chief looking out from the cliff top. Other lore claims that the outcropping was a place where buffalo were herded as a jumping off site. However the rock got its name, it is now highly regarded for its distinctive color, texture, strength and geometric shapes.
